Shifter Romance

A second self with its own opinion about who belongs to whom. The shifter form gives one lead an animal interior, wolf most often, with older instincts and less patience for the human's hesitations, and the romance runs on the negotiation between the two: the person courts, the creature has already decided.

The form's promise is want without ambivalence. The animal does not play games, does not protect its pride, and cannot pretend, so the shifter lead arrives with the genre's rarest offer, complete certainty, and the book's tension moves to the human side of the arrangement, where certainty must be consented to rather than assumed. The desk's test is the animal's reality: the creature must be a genuine second nature with costs, appetites, and a point of view, not a set of abs with lore attached. The common failure is instinct used as consent's solvent; the bond may vote, but the person decides, and the strong books keep that order visible.
