These Terms of Use govern access to rileylocke.net and the content, accounts, recommendations, links, newsletters, paid products, licenses, and services made available through Riley Locke.
By using the site, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the site or create an account.
Who we are
Riley Locke Publications is a trade name used by GR Investments LLC, a Delaware limited liability company in the United States.
Eligibility
The site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. You must be legally able to agree to these terms. A parent or legal guardian is responsible for a minor's permitted use where applicable.
Editorial information and recommendations
Riley Locke provides book summaries, classifications, recommendations, content guidance, series guidance, editorial judgments, and related information. Reviews, verdicts, strengths, recommendations, and similar statements are opinion, honestly held and subject to revision.
Book metadata, publication details, availability, content notes, and other factual information are prepared carefully but may be incomplete, outdated, or wrong. Use the correction process when you find an error.
A recommendation is not a guarantee that you will enjoy a book or that every edition contains identical material. Content guidance is not a guarantee that every potentially sensitive element has been identified. Verify information that is important to your safety, purchase, accessibility, or reading decision.
Accounts and My Books
You are responsible for keeping account credentials secure and for activity under your account. Provide accurate information and do not impersonate another person.
Riley Locke may use rate limits, security checks, temporary holds, or account restrictions to prevent abuse. An account may be suspended or terminated for a material violation of these terms, security risk, unlawful conduct, harassment, scraping, interference, or misuse of the service.
Available account controls may allow you to remove shelf entries, activity information, or the account. The Privacy Policy explains what is retained and why.
Affiliate links, advertising, and sponsorships
Riley Locke may earn revenue from affiliate retailer links, clearly labeled advertising, sponsorships, memberships, subscriptions, products, licensing, research, consulting, or other disclosed commercial relationships.
Affiliate and paid relationships are disclosed as described in the Advertising, Sponsorship & Affiliate Disclosure. A commercial relationship does not purchase an editorial verdict, Reader Match result, Series Intelligence judgment, recommendation, ranking, genre or trope placement, content note, correction decision, or favorable wording.
Some Bookshop.org and Amazon links may earn Riley Locke a commission if you make a qualifying purchase. Retailers control their own inventory, prices, checkout, fulfillment, returns, warranties, and privacy practices. An affiliate link or advertisement is not a Riley Locke endorsement unless the site expressly says otherwise. You are responsible for evaluating any offer before acting on it.
Purchases, memberships, and subscriptions
A paid offer may have additional checkout, license, renewal, cancellation, refund, trial, or usage terms. Those specific terms form part of the agreement for that offer and control where they conflict with these general terms.
Prices and availability may change before purchase. Taxes, billing intervals, renewal terms, and material restrictions should be shown with the offer. Nothing in these terms removes a nonwaivable consumer right available under applicable law.
Payments may be processed by a third party. Riley Locke is not responsible for a payment provider's independent systems, but remains responsible for obligations that legally belong to Riley Locke as the seller of a Riley Locke product or service.
Affiliate retailers, advertising, and other third-party services
Affiliate retailer, advertising, embedded, payment, social, and other external links lead to services Riley Locke does not control. Their terms, privacy practices, prices, inventory, fulfillment, returns, warranties, and security apply when you use them.
A paid advertisement is not a Riley Locke endorsement unless the site expressly says otherwise. External destinations apply their own terms and privacy practices.
Intellectual property
Riley Locke's original writing, taxonomies, explanations, selection, arrangement, design, software, graphics, signed claims, evidence structure, and compiled record are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.
You may read, link to, share, and quote reasonable extracts for commentary, scholarship, or reference with clear attribution and a link where practical.
Unless law permits it or Riley Locke gives written permission, you may not:
- republish substantial portions of the site or its original writing;
- systematically scrape, crawl, mirror, download, or reconstruct the catalog or record;
- remove attribution, provenance, disclosures, or rights notices;
- use Riley Locke editorial content or data to train, fine-tune, evaluate, or supply a machine-learning model;
- resell or redistribute licensed data beyond the applicable license; or
- imply that Riley Locke endorses, sponsors, or produced your product or service.
Underlying public facts such as a book title, author name, publication date, or ISBN are not claimed as Riley Locke's exclusive property merely because they appear on the site.
User submissions
You keep ownership of lawful content you submit. You grant Riley Locke a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, reproduce, display, format, and use that content as reasonably necessary to operate, moderate, secure, and improve the service.
Do not submit unlawful, infringing, defamatory, threatening, discriminatory, deceptive, private, malicious, or spam content. Do not submit confidential information you do not have authority to share.
Riley Locke may moderate or remove submissions and is not required to publish a contribution.
Acceptable use
Do not:
- interfere with the site, security controls, rate limits, accounts, or other users;
- introduce malware or attempt unauthorized access;
- use automated systems in a way that burdens the service or violates stated crawler rules;
- collect personal information about other users;
- manipulate advertising, subscription, or measurement systems;
- use the service for fraud, harassment, unlawful discrimination, or other illegal conduct; or
- misrepresent commercial material as independent Riley Locke editorial work.
Availability and changes
Riley Locke may add, change, suspend, or retire a feature, route, provider, commercial program, or service. The site is not guaranteed to be continuously available or error-free.
Material changes to a paid service will be handled under its specific terms and applicable law. Changes to these Terms of Use apply from the effective date shown at the top unless a different date is stated.
Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the site and free content are provided as is and as available without warranties of uninterrupted availability, accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or noninfringement.
Nothing on Riley Locke is medical, legal, financial, mental-health, or other professional advice.
Limitation of liability
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for fraud or other nonwaivable obligations.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, GR Investments LLC and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from use of the site, reliance on a recommendation, an external service, lost data, or interrupted access.
For a paid Riley Locke service, any additional or different liability terms shown with that service apply, subject to nonwaivable law.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
A mandatory consumer-protection rule or right in your place of residence remains available where it cannot lawfully be waived. The appropriate venue and dispute process for a specific paid service may also be stated in its transaction terms.
