These terms govern your use of rileylocke.net, which is operated by GR Investments LLC, a limited liability company registered in the State of Delaware, United States. Riley Locke Publications is a trading name of that company. By using the site you accept these terms.
Using the site
You may read, link to, and share our content freely. You may quote reasonable extracts with attribution and a link.
You may not republish substantial portions of our writing, scrape the site or its database systematically, use our content to train machine learning models without written permission, or present our work as your own.
The Locke Graph, including our trope definitions, book-to-trope mappings, curated lists, and editorial notes, is our original work and is not licensed for reuse without agreement. Book facts such as titles, authors and ISBNs are nobody's property and travel freely.
Reader accounts
Accounts are provided for your personal, non-commercial use. You are responsible for what happens under yours. We may suspend an account used to abuse the site or other readers.
You can delete your account at any time, which removes your shelf and associated data as described in our Privacy Policy.
Comments and contributions
Anything you post must be lawful and civil. We moderate, and we remove material that is abusive, defamatory, discriminatory, spam, or a targeted attack on an author.
You keep ownership of what you post and grant us a non-exclusive licence to display it here.
Reviews and opinions
Reviews, ratings, verdicts, and recommendations on this site are opinion, honestly held and fairly expressed. They are not statements of fact about the quality of a book or the competence of its author.
Descriptions of plot, publication, and content are prepared carefully and checked before publication, and may still contain errors. Tell us and we will correct them in public.
Affiliate links and advertising
This site carries affiliate links and paid advertising, both disclosed. See our Advertising, Sponsorship and Disclosure policy for what advertisers can and cannot buy.
We are not responsible for the content, products, or practices of any third party you reach through a link.
If you advertise with us
These terms apply to you as an advertiser as well as a reader.
Everything you submit — words, artwork, links — must be yours to use, and by submitting it you confirm that it is, that it is accurate, and that it infringes nobody's rights. You are responsible for what your advertisement says and for where it points.
Every placement is read by a person before it runs, and we may decline any of them without giving a reason. Approval buys placement and nothing else: not a review, not a rating, not a listing, not a kinder verdict, and not advance sight of coverage. That separation is the entire basis on which this site sells advertising, and the Advertising, Sponsorship and Disclosure policy sets out how it is enforced.
We may pause or remove a running placement if it becomes misleading, if its destination changes to something we would not have accepted, or if we would be embarrassed to have it beside a review. Where we remove a placement for those reasons, the unrun portion is refunded.
The figures we report to you are daily totals of impressions and clicks, counted by this site. They carry no information about individual readers, because we hold none. They are not audited or certified to any third-party standard, and we would rather say so than imply a precision we do not have.
An advertiser account exists so you can submit placements and see those figures. Keep your sign-in link to yourself; it is the key to the account.
The Reader's Desk membership
Membership supports the desk. It buys no influence over what the desk says, and no editorial is placed behind it — members get additional material and features, never exclusive access to the reviews.
Payment is handled by an external processor, named at checkout. Your card details go to that processor and are never held by this site. You can cancel at any time from your account; cancelling stops the next payment rather than reversing the last one.
Where the consumer law of your own country gives you a statutory cancellation or refund right, that right stands regardless of the paragraph above.
Content notices
We flag difficult content in good faith and in detail, and we may still miss something or judge it differently from you. Content notices are guidance, not a guarantee, and readers who need certainty about specific material should check further before reading.
Availability
We try to keep the site up and do not promise it. Access may be interrupted for maintenance or for reasons outside our control.
Liability
Nothing here excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Subject to that, the site is provided as-is, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of it or from any decision you make on the basis of a recommendation.
Changes
We may amend these terms. The current version is always the one on this page, with its revision date at the top.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and the state and federal courts located in Delaware have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
Where you live in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, nothing in this clause removes any protection you have under the mandatory consumer law of your own country, or your right to bring a claim there. Our privacy obligations to you under the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR are unaffected by the choice of law above, and are set out in the privacy policy.
Contact
GR Investments LLC (trading as Riley Locke Publications), registered in Delaware, United States.
Messages sent through the form are stored on this site and read by a person. We keep your name, address and message while the matter is open and for a reasonable period after it closes, and you can ask us to erase them at any time.
Write to the desk through the contact form. It reaches a person, returns a reference number you can quote, and is the fastest route for anything about these terms, a correction, or your data. We publish no address or mailbox here: the form is tracked, an inbox is not.
