Emily Henry is an American novelist. Born in 1991, she grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, and studied creative writing at Hope College in Michigan; the Great Lakes summer towns of that period recur throughout her work. She began her career in young-adult fiction with The Love That Split the World (2016) and three further YA novels before moving to adult fiction. Beach Read (2020), her adult debut, became a bestseller during the pandemic reading boom, and each subsequent novel — People We Meet on Vacation (2021), Book Lovers (2022), Happy Place (2023), Funny Story (2024), and Great Big Beautiful Life (2025) — debuted at number one on the New York Times list. Her books have been published in more than forty languages, and several are in development for film at studios including Netflix and 3000 Pictures. She lives in Cincinnati.
