Some Desperate Glory

A young soldier raised on the last human station has been trained to avenge Earth's destruction and accept military command as the only source of truth. She is skilled, disciplined, and certain that sacrifice is the price of survival. That certainty cracks when the institution directing her life assigns futures to her and her brother that expose how little individual loyalty matters to its larger project. An escape places her beside people she was taught to distrust and in a universe more complicated than the station's doctrine allowed. The novel begins as militant space opera and becomes an examination of indoctrination, grief, and moral agency. Its tension comes from watching a capable person learn that courage is not the same as obedience. The larger conflict remains active, but the summary avoids the reversals that reshape her understanding.
